西久保八幡貝塚（西久保八幡神社）

所在地　港区虎ノ門5-10-14　（西久保八幡神社）

　港区虎ノ門飯倉交差点の北側にあたる台地の先端に西久保八幡神社があります。この社殿の裏手斜面に貝塚が形成されており、都心部に良好な状態でのこる貝塚と言えます。
　本貝塚が知られたのは昭和のはじめ頃に遡りますが、正式調査を経ぬまま今日にいたっていました。昭和57年（1982）度の都心部遺跡調査団による分布調査で存在が確認され、調査が行われました。
　台地の縁辺から斜面にかけて、縄文時代後期前葉から後葉にかけての混土貝層が二枚発見されました。また、貝層上には縄文時代晩期の遺物包含層、貝層下には縄文時代前期の遺物包含層が確認されています。調査範囲が狭いにもかかわらず、貝層からは縄文時代後期中葉の完形の精製浅鉢土器や精製深鉢土器、粗製深鉢時が数個出土しており、Ｅ・Ｓモースが発掘した品川区大井の国指定史跡大森貝塚出土品（重要文化財）との比較資料として重要です。

 It is in the beginning of the Showa Era that kitchen midden under this section became known,however,it had been dubjected to no academic excavations until very recently.The site was identified as is in the framework of inbestigation on destribution conducted in 1982 by the Central metropolitan area remains investigation group,subsequently new reseatches were conducted.
 2 layers of shells miwed with soil from an early to a late stage of the Late Jomon Period were found from edges to slope of the identified above the layers of shells,while a layer comprising relics from the Early Jomon Period below them.Although the range of investigation was limited,several fine-made shallow,fine-made deep and roughly made deep bowl-shaped clay vessels were excavated.These clay vessels are important as reference materials compared to excavated relics(Immportant Cultural Assets)from a state-designated historic site Omori kichen midden.
